Building Stronger Connections

Sep 12, 2024

KŪ THOUGHT

"Strong pilina, relationships, are built on authentic communication."

Authentic communication means expressing ourselves honestly and sharing our true thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment or rejection. It also involves active listening—fully hearing and understanding the other person's perspective. When communicating authentically, we create a space of trust and openness, where both parties feel valued and understood.

KŪ REFLECTION

"He pūnāwai kahe wale ke aloha" - Love is a spring that flows freely

During a family vacation, I constantly checked my phone and worried about emails I might get, missing out on enjoying the place and moments happening around me. Realizing this, I decided to disconnect and be fully present. The result? I created memories that are now etched in my heart forever. Being present allowed me to truly experience the joy of being with my ʻohana, something that would have been lost if I hadn’t chosen to engage fully.

"To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others." — Tony Robbins

CHECK YOUR MANA

The answer we keep coming back to is connection.  Connection to ourselves.Connection to each other.Connection to community.Connection to place. That has always been som...
Whose story should we sit with?
There’s probably someone whose stories you’ve heard more than once.  A kūpuna.  An aunty or uncle.  A parent.  A teacher, practitioner, neighbor, friend, or someone in your community.  Someone who carries stories about a place, a family, a way of doing things, or a time that has already begun to change. So we want to ask you: Whose story should we sit with? As we begin building the KŪ Digital M...
A place for our stories to live
We grow up hearing stories so often that we assume they’ll always be there.  Stories around the dinner table.  Stories from our kūpuna. Stories about where we came from, how things used to be, what our families went through, and the small things that shaped who we are.  Until one day, we realize we never recorded them. Over the years, KŪ Project has changed in a lot of ways. But the thing under...
