The Reel History of Hawai’i

The Office of Hawaiian affairs released Pa’a Ke Aupuni: The Reel History of Hawaii and can be watched on Vimeo.

On their Facebook page, they mentioned:

The one hour animated film shares the facts about the political history of Hawaiʻi from King Kamehameha to Queen Liliʻuokalani in a format that is easy to understand.

As we watched through the film, we were amazed about how little we actually knew about the political history of Hawaii unless you went out to research on your own.  We were also surprised to see how little is taught in schools about these specific events.

This is a great film to start conversations, learn, and share with others who would like to learn more about the history of Hawaii.

Our Thoughts:

We think OHA did a great job by of sharing Hawaii’s history in an hour long film.  Now does it touch upon every things? No.  That’s okay.  The most important thing it does is educate us and starts a dialogue.

If you watched the film, what were some of your thoughts?
