ʻEono Ways to Protect Your Maluhia

Part of being KŪ is standing up for what is best for you and doesn’t take your energy away from what’s important.

Our wahi pana, sacred spaces, are meant to be respected and kept at peace, or Maluhia.  Your kino and mana are also sacred and should be respected and kept at peace.

Here are 6 Ways to help you Protect your Maluhia.

Be Kūpono with Yourself

Being honest with yourself is one of the most challenging acts you can do but also the most rewarding.  And yes, it is easier said than done, that’s why you need this reminder.

Trust your Na’au

That gut feeling you have is our inner voice telling you what you truly think and feel.  Too often, we tend to overlook it or push that feeling aside which can slowly drain your Mana the more you pay no attention to what your Naʻau is telling you.

Understand you don’t have anything to prove.

A kupuna once told me, “The more you try to prove yourself to others, the more of a fool you become.” As I reflected on those words I realized there are two people who we try to prove ourselves to 1) people who don’t need us to prove anything to them because they love us and 2) people who don’t care about us but we are worried about their opinions of us.

Keep doing your best.  You are trying and that is solid.

You don’t give yourself enough credit for what you are doing, what you have accomplished, and what you have overcome.  Mostly, in part, because you compare yourself to what others are doing and how they are living. Constantly comparing your journey to another’s journey, will always lead you off the path you are meant to be on.

Focus on bettering yourself and continue doing your best.  Kūlia i ka nuʻu – strive for the summit.

It’s never too late to be KŪ

To me, KŪ is a mindset and lifestyle.  Overall, to be KŪ is about standing tall and stronger within your true authentic self by focusing on what’s important to you and brings meaning to your life. It’s a holistic approach towards health and wellness that incorporates the Hawaiian culture and values into how you live your life.  It’s never too late to be KŪ, you’ll know when it’s time to make the shift towards living a KŪ life.

Cleanse your Social Media Feed

The average person spends 2 hours and 25 minutes on social media a day.  Studies have found social media to assist in the cause of anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges.  When you aren’t mindful and set boundaries for who and what you follow on your social media you can get stuck in a comparison and feedback loop, that no matter what you will find yourself comparing and absorbing the negative energy that permeates throughout social media.

Protect Your Maluhia

Protecting your peace is essential to keeping yourself grounded and feeling KŪ.  Again, this is not easy.  You will be challenged and somedays with be harder than others.

But as long as you are trying your best – that is all that truly matters.
