What is Cryotherapy? Visit to Honolulu Cryotherapy

It looks like something straight out of Mr. America or better yet, the classic movie – Demolition Man (remember the 3 shells?)

Anyways…

I first came across Cryotherapy after listening to a podcast interview between Tim Ferriss and Tony Robbins.  All I heard was cold exposure, sub zero, increase recovery rate, burn fat, and makes you feel amazing.  Interesting and I left it at that.

Recently, people have been talking about Cryotherapy and asking my thoughts.  I couldn’t give an actual answer so I decided the best thing I could do was experience it myself.

WHAT IS CRYOTHERAPY?

Cryotherapy uses a chamber that exposes your body to freezing temperatures for up to two to three minutes with liquid nitrogen.  It’s like you are being made into ice cream at Nitrogenie at Ala Moana.

The use of cryotherapy, as mentioned by those who use it such as doctors, researchers, athletes, and celebrities, is mainly for the anti-inflammatory effect.  Other mentioned benefits aside from reducing inflammation are increased in metabolism, makes the skin look smoother, and improves sleep.

There isn’t much research behind the actual benefits of Cryotheraphy.  It is still fairly new.

MY THOUGHTS

I enjoyed my experience at Honolulu Cryotherapy.  They had great service and I felt safe at all times since there has been some worry about safety with Cryotherapy.

I see cryotherapy as a great use for recovery from hard training and reducing inflammation.  I think it is very similar to ice baths but instead it is dry and you only can be in the chamber for 2-3 minutes.

Just like any other type of treatment, one visit isn’t going to change everything.  It may make you feel better for the short term.  Same as getting a massage – one time isn’t going to automatically release all the muscle tension.

With all of that being said – I am looking forward to my next session.

If you are interested in trying out cryotherapy – definitely visit Honolulu Cryotherapy, Eric was very helpful and made my first visit and experience, solid.
