Things I Didn’t Know About Pellegrino

One of the main reasons why I got into drinking Pelligrino or sparkling water is because it helped me cut back on my beer drinking.  I still do enjoy drinking beer but sometimes you are just after a little bubbly and the sparkling water does its job.

Being a curious person and one who likes to write and share things about health and fitness, I had to look into sparkling water more to see if there are any other good reasons instead of lessening my beer drinking.

First off, how do you get carbonated water? When carbon dioxide gas is dissolved into water under pressure, TA DA! you get…carbonated water.

Now there were some new findings and some quite not-so new findings.  Here is a quite not-so new findings.

Hydrates your body: It is water with bubbles.  It doesn’t have any additives like sugar or caffeine.  Side note: If you are worried about caffeine being a diuretic, you need to consume more than 500mg daily in order for it to be a problem.  I’ll be honest, some days I may be playing with that region just a bit too much.

Here are the new findings:

Can treat constipation: Interesting.  Research shows that people who drink carbonated water has less constipation than those who drink regular water.  Another side note: If you already have Irritable Bowel Syndrom (IBS), it is said not to drink carbonated water because it may aggravate your condition and make bloating worse.

Lowers Blood Pressure.  No shit.  Most carbonated waters are from mineral water which contains magnesium.  There are some brands that pump in more magnesium and calcium, I honestly haven’t come across any.  So if you have high blood pressure and low magnesium levels, sparkling water may be a good thing to try.

Relieves upset stomach.  Research found that people who drank carbonated water experienced reduced indigestion compared to those who drank regular water.

STILL READ THE LABELS

Now that I am equipped with a little more ammo to share why I like to drink sparkling water like Pelligrino, it doesn’t mean you should go out and just start drinking whatever sparkling water you come across.

There are still a good amount of sparkling water brands that add in sugar and artificial sweeteners. So just be aware of what’s on the label.  I personally keep with Mineral Water, like Pellegrino, because Seltzer Water is artificially carbonated while Mineral Water naturally bubbly.

Hope that brought you some enlightenment if you were even half interested in bubbly water.
