Is Minimalism Kū?

minimalism

Minimalism, according to The Minimalists, “is a tool that can assist you in finding freedom. Freedom from fear. Freedom from worry. Freedom from overwhelm. Freedom from guilt. Freedom from depression. Freedom from the trappings of the consumer culture we’ve built our lives around. Real freedom.”

Minimalism introduced itself to me back in 2012 while living in California.  I remember diving right into it and getting rid of all the things that I felt were weighing me down.  The TV, the random lamp in the corner, the plates and utensils I never use, were either let go.  Not only did a free myself from material things that brought me to no meaning or value but I began strengthen my mind and spirit by confronting my inner demons.  This journey came out into my book, Aloha to You, where I focus on finding Aloha for yourself before you give a Aloha.  You can’t give what you don’t have.

Some see minimalism as an idea of limiting yourself to what you own, not own a car, have no career, travel around, and starting a blog about being a minimalist.  Just like being Kū, minimalism comes down to the individual on what it means to you.

To be Kū, means to stand tall in who you are and become a symbol of strength by taking care of your fitness and health.  When I say your fitness and health, I mean physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Minimalism has helped me in these ways:

  • Find passion in learning
  • Rid myself of excess stuff
  • Discover purpose and meaning
  • Create more and consume less
  • Focus more on my health
  • Discover my WHY
  • Contribute more to others.

Through incorporating minimalism into my life, I’ve found the path towards happiness and influence.  I’m not saying there are times where there are ups and downs, but I learned acceptance and take responsibility.

Overall, minimalism is about finding happiness not through materialistic things, but life itself.  So it comes down to you finding what is necessary to have in your life.

So is Minimalism Kū?

If you are determined to live a life full of strength, honor, happiness, and influential by focusing on the things that bring you value and meaning, then minimalist is Kū.

The journey of minimalism and becoming Kū isn’t easy and there are no shortcuts.  At The Ku Project, my intention is to share with you ideas of how you can achieve it and ways that have helped me.  The first step is always hard but gets easier the further you get into it.  It becomes part of your lifestyle.  The Kū lifestyle.

The most important step is to take that first step and be patient.  After the first step you begin to make radical changes in your attitude, mindset, and habits.  If you need a community to help you through it, that’s what The Ku Project is here for.

Be You.  Be Kū.
