How Being Kū Can Help Hawaii Businesses

Hawaii businesses can thrive when they understand what it means to Be Kū.

Your health is your greatest asset in life and not enough is being done about it.  For those who exercise on a regular basis know that there are more benefits other than just weight loss, getting a six pack, or just being in shape.

For Hawaii businesses, being Kū will increase productivity, improve business culture, and enhance performance – which all results in greater profits.

But I don’t want you to focus on the bottom line profits.  Being Kū allows for the human capacity to transform something (a service or product) into an emotion.  When a business becomes Kū they take on the 3 pillars of Dedication, Discipline, and Determination.

Businesses are like teams who must be dedicated towards achieving a specific goal.  Now that goal must serve as an intrinsic motivator that the team looks at as their ultimate WHY, their purpose.  As a business, if not all members are on the same page or understand the ultimate goal or the WHY, then what do they have to dedicate themselves to? Just showing up? Getting a paycheck?

This is where the Discipline comes in.  Once all members of a team or business understand what they’re dedicated to achieve, this is when the work begins which is why having intrinsic motivators are essential.  We like to call these Kū Reasons.  When you have Kū Reasons, you see the greater good of the work that must be done.  You don’t try to take any short-cuts because it’s not authentic nor serves as true Aloha.  People are always looking for short cuts because they aren’t disciplined enough to work hard.

Your determination is tested when obstacles come your way.  Hawaii businesses may come across a situation that will test their purpose or even more, test your integrity for what you stand for.  Determination allows you to stand Kū to overcome those adversities, root yourself in the ground and stay paʻa, firm.

IMAGINE THIS…

Imagine Hawaii businesses who integrate the philosophy of building a Kū body and living Kū into their own culture at work.  This is what it could look like:

People will show up excited to be at work understanding that they play an integral role for achieving the ultimate WHY.  There energy levels are high due to their physical fitness and health which trickles over to them having more confidence in what they do.  People are in more positive moods, the absent rate has decreased, performance has sky rocketed, and the business feels strong.

But overall, on the individual level, people feel they are contributing to a greater good and are proud of the work they do no matter what job title they have.

That’s a Kū business in Hawaii and this is definitely a conversation that needs to be had amongst businesses in Hawaii.

How can businesses embody the culture to “Build a Kū body and Live Kū”?
